Magnesium deficiency is rampant. While less than 2% of Americans have been estimated to experience magnesium deficiency, one study suggests that up to 75% are not meeting their recommended intake. In most cases, deficiency is often overlooked until the person becomes extremely symptomatic. Even then, a different health condition may be the diagnosis with no regard to mag...Read Full Post »

Glyphosate was first introduced in the United States in 1974. It is best known for being the active ingredient in Monsanto’s popular Roundup herbicide. It is used on crops of all kinds, from corn to soybeans to wheat to potatoes. Unfortunately it is now being found in many organic crops as well, due to wind dispersing it from nearby farms. There really is no way to avoid it; glyphosate is everywhere.

Most people are aware that there is a strong correlation between periodontal (gum) disease and heart attacks. Bringing this a step further, one can see that there may also be a strong correlation between bone loss and overall heart disease. Since most periodontal disease involves not just gum inflammation and pocketing, but also loss of the bone height supporting the teeth, we can assume that this bone loss, along with the gum inflammation is involved with the heart attack as well.

It has been said that 80% of the immune system can be found in the intestines. If this is true, then good health will never be attained until your digestive system is working at its best.
So if you are dealing with chronic health problems and also have chronic intestinal issues (constipation, lo...Read Full Post »

A recent study (published in PLOS ONE), has found that the amino acid L-arginine destroys the bacteria which cause cavities and gum disease.
L-arginine is a common amino acid found naturally in red meat, poultry, fish, soy and certain dairy products. It helps rid people’s teeth of destructive biofilms that cause poor oral health.

Candida (yeast) infections are on the rise; mostly due to side effects from medications, poor diet and alcohol use.
It is one of those sneaky diseases that develops over the years, presenting with symptoms that are vast and non-specific. I would have to say that over 80% of my patients have some degree of this fungal infection, many of who believe it is something else going on in their body.

As a dentist, I have seen many patients with significant jaw bone loss. This is not a good thing as it is a marker for loose teeth and eventual tooth loss. Sometimes it may be associated with the usual symptoms of periodontal disease and you should read our previous post Floss First! for further clarity. But other times, the periodontal hea...Read Full Post »

I like to consider myself adventurous when it comes to finding unusual and exciting health-promoting foods to eat. So when the holidays aprroached and my son asked what I would like as a gift, my usual answer would have been chocolate, preferably raw and dark. But being that he works in the Chinatown area, I asked if he would surprise me with one of those unusual looking fruits that the supermarkets sell down there.
I basically have no idea what they are named and even less...Read Full Post »

When cleaning out the refrigerator to make room for the upcoming holiday meal, I came across a most unexpected surprise. This one came in the form of a science experiment.
A container of ice cream was discovered in the freezer. It had been left by the house sitter about a month ago.
Not wanting to make a big leaky mess in the garbage can, I attempted to wash the contents down the kitchen drain by running hot water over the contents. Simple enough one would...Read Full Post »

After looking in so many mouths for so many decades, there is one thing that I have found in common with the majority of my patients. Mineral deficiency. This includes even the very health conscious patients. I can usually assess this deficiency by tongue reading, and after asking a few basic questions, my suspicions are confirmed.
Mineral deficiency is rampant in our culture and it is many times diagnosed as something else. A perfect example of this is irregular heartbeat...Read Full Post »

I guess the title of this post got your attention. Who in their right mind would cook with fluoride? Actually many of you are, and are not even aware of it.
As most of you already know, fluoride is a neurotoxin (destroys nerve cells) and it is found almost everywhere. Even in places that...

When Mother Teresa was asked many years ago if she would attend an anti-war rally, her answer was rather profound: I will not be part of an anti-war demonstration. As soon as you have a pro-peace rally, I'll be there.

When one hears the word hemp, one usually thinks of something illegal (marijuana) or the fabric that makes potato sack bags.
Though its name might be a bit misleading, hemp milk is a perfectly legal, not to mention a healthy alternative for everyone to drink. Produced from the seeds of the hemp plant, this milk has only begun to be sold in the United States within the past few years.
One concern that people have about hemp milk is that it might contai...Read Full Post »

In this age of veganism, the idea of eating animal meat is verboten. However, this is also an age of rising health problems, weakened immune systems and poor vitality. With this understanding, it is important to keep an open mind for unique health boosting methods.

I have always been a chocoholic. But due to the high sugar and fat content, along with other non-healthy ingredients added to conventional chocolate, I have needed to restrain myself.
Not so anymore.
Raw chocolate is a superfood. It is a natural food that has a tremendous phytonutrient content that can confer amazing health benefits. It has a very high ORAC (Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity) score, which is an important property, as it denot...Read Full Post »

Many patients have often asked me to name the one thing that I would recommend most to restore and maintain health. Now, that is a tough question, since my list of healthy healing modalities gets longer by the week. But if I had to narrow it down to one thing that can be done on a regular basis to promote good health, it would be Green Juices. I can’t survive very long without my green juices. If I miss more than 2 days, I actually crave the stuff.
